The site is maintained by BLC Leather Technology Centre, the trade body for the leather industry. UK Leather Federation - This is the trade body for the leather industry. The site includes a wide variety of information on leather and details of the services they offer. The Conservation Register - This is a register of conservators maintained by The Institute of Conservation (ICON). This link takes you to a page which gives advice on choosing a conservator / restorer. J Hewit and Sons - Suppliers of high quality book binding leather and leather working tools Harmatan Leather - Suppliers of fine bookbinding leather. Also upholstery leathers finished to show the grain pattern. Preservation Equipment Ltd - Materials and Equipment for conservation and preservation of works of art and archives. ICON - this takes you to the home page of the Institute of Conservation (ICON) the UK industry lead body for conservation and restoration. ICOM UK - this takes you to the United Kingdom site for the International Council of Museums. ICOM-CC - This is the site for the International Council of Museums Conservation Committee. It provides links to the specialist working groups, and information about conferences. BAFRA - The British Antique Furniture Restorers Association. Specialist advice on furniture restoration and a list of members. Museum of Leathercraft - The Museum of Leathercraft in Northampton has a large and important collection of leather ranging from gilt leather, to saddles, to bags. Emma Telford Textile Conservator - Treatment of a variety of textiles including samplers, tapestries, costume, embroideries, flags and banners. Primex - this site is hosted by Primex at www.primex.co.uk. Valerie Michael and Neil McGregor - Courses on leather working - handbags, decorative leather, introductory courses etc. Cambridge Pianola Company - Restoration and sales of Pianolas, rolls and spares. Also, reconditioned pianos. Albion Conservation Consultancy - A consultancy service on preventive conservation, textiles etc Leather Wise - A consultancy that provides professional problem solving and arbitration services relating to leather and leather products. Also, training courses on all aspects of leather production and use in consumer products. Leather conservation blog - A blog created by Lina Falcao, a leather conservator in Portugal. Contains a wide range of information about leather conservation and related issues in a number of languages. Gilt leather This site describes how gilt leather is made, gives guidance on its conservation, and gives links to other gilt leather sites. Martin.co.uk - kitchen, bedroom and furniture handles - Martin at Armac - knobs and handles, reproduction and modern. The following sites have links to this site but little is known about them. Leather briefcases - Leathertree - a commercial site for leather goods. Sites of interest to Theo Sturge, but not related to leather. Northampton Hope Centre. - The Centre provides a welcome to all who may be homeless or disadvantaged whatever the reasons or circumstances. |
